Capturing Natural Connections with Older Newborn Photography

Hi, I’m Chris.

In my bright, all-white studio on Johnson Street, I've created a calm, unhurried space where you can simply arrive and connect. I'll take care of everything else.

From your first inquiry to your final images, the experience is designed to feel seamless, stress-free, and genuinely enjoyable.

A family of five, including two adult women, one adult man, one teenage girl, and one young boy, dressed in white shirts and light-colored clothing, standing against a white background.

I am a mom to 3 teenagers (!) and the photographer behind the lens since 2012. Early Expressions Sessions weren't just a business idea — they came from something personal. When my first baby was born, I experienced postpartum depression. The thought of getting in front of a camera at two weeks felt impossible. I wasn't ready. And I know I wasn't alone in that.

During COVID, older babies started coming to my studio — and something shifted. These babies were awake. Expressive. Connecting with their families. Siblings were more comfortable. Moms were more healed. Sessions flowed beautifully. Baby felt like part of the session, not a prop in it. I fell in love with it — and I've been building a portfolio and practice around it ever since.

Older Newborn Sessions

You don't need to know what to do. That's my job.

Dads feel at ease. Siblings feel included. And you can actually be present.

A family of four sitting on a white bed in a bright, minimal bedroom. The father and mother are smiling at each other, with their young son sitting on the father's lap and the baby girl on the mother's lap. All are dressed in white and beige, creating a warm and cheerful atmosphere.

A note to the Moms:

You have spent weeks holding them close. Learning their sounds. Breathing them in. You deserve to be in the frame — when you feel ready.

The Experience

Most newborn sessions happen in the earliest, most overwhelming days. Early Expressions Sessions are different — designed for babies around 5–10 weeks, when you've had a little time to heal, settle in, and catch your breath.

By this stage, your baby is more awake. More expressive. Beginning to make eye contact. Sometimes even smiling. That changes everything.

When you arrive at my bright, all-white studio, everything is calm and simple. No elaborate props. No complicated sets. Just a welcoming space where your family can relax and connect.

The Space

Sessions last around 60–90 minutes and move entirely at your baby's pace. I'll guide you through everything:

  • How to hold your baby

  • Where to stand and move naturally

  • Simple connection-focused posing for awake babies

  • How to soothe and settle if baby needs a moment

The Session

Traditional newborn photography focuses on sleepy, curled poses in the very first days. Early Expressions Sessions focus on something else: eye contact, soft expressions, stretching fingers, first smiles. The way they look at you. Baby feels like part of the session — not a prop in it.

The Difference

After your session, you'll receive a beautiful proofing gallery within 48 hours. You choose the images that feel most like your family.

Collections are clearly outlined in your Portrait Guide — no in-person sales pressure, no complicated ordering process, no surprise pricing. You can select images from your online gallery, or over Zoom if you'd prefer a guided experience.

Final, fully edited images are delivered within two weeks. And for those who want something to hold — not just store on a phone — heirloom albums are available.

The Process

  • I’ll be honest — dads don’t usually look forward to photo sessions. After a negative experience a couple of years ago, I especially wasn’t excited... →

  • Chris was different. She knows how to work with dads and our preschooler in a way that feels natural, not awkward. Clear direction, no pressure, no stiffness — just a relaxed, professional session that was actually fun.

    — Carl

  • Somehow, she made me comfortable in front of a camera. I didn’t expect to enjoy it… but I did.
